Contribution/In Memory message to JHU Carey staff
The following message was sent out to the JHU Carey staff by Rhonda McCray.

=====
Hello to all,

Some of you may or may not know that, Charles Wachira, our Online Project Coordinator, lost his father a few weeks ago to colon cancer at the young age of 66.

The Teaching&Learning@Carey Team members, along with several of us in the Carey Office of Education would like to make a contribution in Charles’ father’s name to a rural school in Nyeri, Kenya called Ihruru Primary School.  Charles' father attended this school and later worked there as a teacher and as a principal.

The students have various needs in this area of the world, where the average monthly salary is about $311. Our donations will go towards supplies like books, uniforms, mosquito nets, allowances for field trips, math equipment etc.  We are working directly with Charles who is talking with his mother to determine the best way for any money to be used. He will ensure that the money directly helps the students of the school.

If you are interested in contributing, please send to either Rhonda McCray or Catherine Zadoretsky by Wednesday, July 15.  Any contribution is welcome, no size is too small. Please do not feel any pressure to contribute. This is absolutely voluntary.   Please feel free to share this email with others.

Wiley, our online educational learning partners, are also coordinating contributions on their side. We'll pool together our money and jointly send a check or box of supplies to the school.

Thank you.

 Rhonda H. McCray

Ihururu Project Plan

After discussing this project with the staff from the Carey Business School and Wiley, the details were communicated to Mr. Wachira’s family. My mother, Janet Wachira would represent the family, and serve as a liaison between primary school and Carey/Wiley team. My family is very grateful and extremely excited at the impact this project will have on the children of Ihururu Primary School and the community.

Ihururu Project Committee

06/22/2015

The staff of the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School and Wiley created a project to collect contributions that would honor Christopher Wachira’s legacy as an educator and to benefit the children and their community. The Carey/Wiley team was headed by Rhonda McClay and Jeanne Kim. We decided to base the project on Ihururu Primary School. Ihururu Primary School was dear to Mr. Wachira since this is where he attended school and later began his career as a school administrator.
